Artists' Statement

The paintings Ian and I created together for this abstract series are pure creations. Pure in the context with no ulterior motives. We garnered the idea to create the series through our shared love of art and the process of creating.

We spent hours upon hours sharing the process in the heat of an abandoned warehouse, often with sweat dripping from our brow onto the canvas. We often had to return home to find the most efficient methods of removing paint from hair, body and clothes; surely a labor of love. It was a very freeing experience to be able to create for no other purpose then the creation itself.

The body of work expresses what we were feeling at the time we dripped the paint. Some splatters are slow and lackadaisical, while others are charged with the power of the moment. The further into the series we painted, the more free we became with our experimentation.....not of medium, but of application.

The process kept our egos in check as we shared the canvas and the paint. Ian's painting would overlap my painting and my painting would overlap Ian's and so on and so forth until we both decided it was finished. In some paintings, you can't even see the beginning.

It was a wonderful experience and I very much look forward to the next series with Ian.
